The overall objective of the project was to “contribute to the sustainable development of Zambia through the strengthening of civil society organisations to participate in the promotion of environment and natural resources sustainability and good practices, and in combating environmental damage”.
The project had two components, namely: i) the establishment and management of a CSO Environmental Fund; and ii) the design and establishment of a CSO Environmental Centre, an independent knowledge management and capacity development centre targeting CSOs involved in environmental management.
The results from the implementation of the two components were:
- Enhanced contribution of CSOs to various environmental management processes in Zambia, as a result of improvements in institutional and technical capacities of these organizations; and
- Improved coordination, capacity development, networking and information sharing among CSOs working in different areas of the Environment and Natural Resources sector.
